runway // spring summer 2016 // menswear + womenswear favorites

is it spring/summer 2016 yet?! 12 favorite collections below:

marc jacobs menswear // obsessed with: crushed velvet, silk asian style pajamas and baby pink paired with burnt orange.

louis vuitton menswear // obsessed with: silk everything, bowling shirts, souvenir jackets, matching sets and mauve hues.

sandro menswear // always one of my favorite menswear collections. obsessed with: classic french dressing, simple basics, denim and boxier shirting.

j.w. anderson menswear // obsessed with: raw denim, wider leg pants, deep cuffs, thick collars, news-inspired graphics.

alexander wang // obsessed with: mini shorts worn over boxers, long denim skirts with high slits, cream colored silk pajama shirts and slips.

opening ceremony // obsessed with: elongated, silk raglan shirts and burnt orange outfitting.

simon miller // obsessed with: the earthy, neutral palette, suede trucker jackets and trousers, and distressed denim.

assembly new york // obsessed with: patchwork denim, styling, and those black neck chokers.

fendi // obsessed with: well, everything. this is the antithesis of my style but i dig it all, especially the bright red and watermelon pink hues in those 80's inspired silhouettes!

gucci // no words. favorite quote about this collection: "i like the ambiguous because beauty lies in something that is not well define," says creative director alessandro michele.

coach // obsessed with: mixed floral prints, outerwear and color-blocked leather minis.

carven // obsessed with: the story behind the collection in which a girl in search of a seaside adventure, ditches her boyfriend (but “packs some of his shirts to wear with her minis”) and learns to scuba dive. the looks evolve into evening wear as she goes back to city life at which point she’s wearing her souvenirs.

compare + contrast // motorway mood

motorway mood // cultureisland 2015 // ground zero rtw fall 2015 // schmott transparent cuts 2015

two completely unrelated things i've been inspired by lately: ground zero's recent fall 2015 ready to wear collection and these "transparent cuts" photographs of stones by schmott.

ground zero's collection uses photocollage, patches, bold + clever verbiage and graphics that look like a cross between a cigarette pack and a car racing uniform. plus oddly shaped futuristic sunglasses that are wonderful and weird.

schmott's photos feature thin sections of stone samples from the f.a. finger institute for building material science weimar, which come from motorways and buildings. the stones reflect light making them appear transparent, then they are enlarged in the darkroom and reproduced on color paper.

moschino // rtw fall 2015

jeremy scott kills it every time. he's a genuine genius when it comes to high-low culture. these graffiti gowns from his recent moschino fall 2015 womenswear collection are so wonderful and weird. if only they were around when i went to the high school prom in 2007. the hello my name is sticker graphics are my favorite detail. a quote from his november 2014 interview with the cut's veronique hyland has stuck with me for awhile now, "i don’t really dissect too much when ideas come — they just kind of pop into my head, i just take them and run. i’ve always loved things that are [either] teeny-tiny or ginormous. like, a giant toothbrush: i always find humorous. i love all these things where proportions have been changed and altered." wise words.

opening ceremony // fall 2015

obsessed with the opening ceremony mens collection for fall 2015! every detail is truly amazing: 1. that is the perfect tan color // 2. love the kodak collaboration (old kodak logos? yes please!) // 3. layered short sleeved knits over longsleeves plus those trousers (the way they bunch up at the bottom but taper at the ankle and the pocket flap with the rounded zipper pull), and all in the same hue! // 4. that grosgrain belt // 5. i want to photoshop my face into every outfit (i even like their male model's hairstyle).

more about the collection from style.com: "who better to recruit for such an undertaking than oc comrade spike jonze? long before he was directing for the big screen, jonze cut his teeth documenting bmx and skate culture, cofounded dirt magazine (regarded as the male counterpart to sassy), and contributed regularly to thrasher magazine. it was his hefty personal archive that yielded some of fall's coolest prints: a dizzying black-and-white skate collage; b-roll stills from the beasite boys, "sabotage" video; bmx bikers mid-air. opening ceremony is also now perhaps the only brand to ever show a sonic youth jacquard."

etro // spring 2015

etro // spring 2015

where fashion + food are typically an odd couple, etro's spring 2015 menswear collection was clever, humorous and visually stimulating. bright colored sportswear was combined with swirling paisley prints and plates of seafood, pasta and fish among other cooking concoctions. style.com says "etro being something of a philosopher, there was the obvious subtext that you are what you eat. so if you wear what you eat, you're punching the point home even harder." just some food for thought.

dior's homme spring 2015 collection emphasized traditional tailored menswear updated with brightly colored doodles. the artful scribbles look like new, abstract stripes in which creative director kris van assche expressed the feeling of "letting it go." next spring, i'll be sporting the doodled sneakers and denim pieces from the men's department (despite cost + size!).

james long // menswear // ss 15

inspired by sportswear + youth culture, james long designed striped and color blocked athleisure + denim for his spring/summer 2015 menswear collection. the very cool getup has a definite street/punk vibe. and with primary colored patchwork, each piece looks like a work of contemporary art. as james long put it: "for me, it's more than just sportswear, it's fashion. it's what i wear."
